Dewey Beach May Vote on Height Limit
DEWEY BEACH, Del. (AP)- The Dewey Beach Town Council has decided to get voters to weigh in on whether the town’s current 35-foot height limit on new construction should be in its charter.
Concerns over Dewey Beach building heights came up last year after a 68-foot-tall luxury resort was proposed for the site of Ruddertowne, a popular collection of restaurants and stores. Concerned property owners petitioned for the height referendum over the summer, but the town council defeated their request in July.
Marcia Schieck, who helped organize last summer’s petition, says the town fall elections could be seen as a referendum on the building height issue since candidates who favored keeping it at 35 feet were elected by a large margin.
