a letter from Edwin and Rita Zucker…

October 13, 2007

Dear Dewey Beach Planning & Zoning Commissioners, Town Commissioners and Town Manager:

You are requested to consider the following in evaluating and acting upon any proposals by HHA or others to build or develop any part of our town inconsistent with the present height limitations in excess of 35':

The character of the town as a shore residential community with a vibrant Route 1 night life is the way the town has been for many years. We, as well as many property owners and residents prefer it that way, and purchased our homes, rental properties, etc, with the perception of the town the way it is. We have continued to own and maintain these properties because of the character of Dewey the way it is.

There is no benefit to the town, and current residents/owners within the town, from the HHA proposals for development of buildings greater than 35', other than perceived greater income to the town. Our view is that the income needs of the town can be met by taxation of the real property within the town. If we need more income to maintain the present services or add improved services, increase the taxes. We, and many others, do not object to paying for the services the town provides via taxation. We wouldn't care if out town taxes doubled tomorrow to assure that the HHA proposals, and others like it, are prevented forever.

We urge the Dewey Beach officials and commissioners to speak against, and vote against any acts or proposals that change the current 35' height limit within the town., and to direct development planning and tax planning efforts consistent with the above views.

Yours truly,
Edwin Zucker and Rita Zucker
