To: The Honorable Members of the Planning and Zoning Commission
We urge you to vote down any change to the existing 35-foot height limitation. The plans put forth by Harvey Hanna and Associates, both the original request for a 68-foot variance and the latest request for a 48-foot variance, do not fit the Dewey Beach “way of life.”
Dewey Beach’s small-town charm will surely be lost with little gain for the town and its residents.
Even if HHA’s assertions that Dewey Beach will reap the benefits of a year-long resort and convention destination, which, let’s face it, is highly unlikely based on the town’s remote location, no nearby airport or facility (existing or proposed) with any significant amount of meeting space, prove correct, the town faces undesirable long-term impact. No doubt, excessive congestion, noise and litter, not to mention the strain on existing public services go hand-in-hand with a high-density development.
Other neighboring town governments and Sussex County have seen the light, placing and enforcing height restriction on structures, it’s time for Dewey Beach to do the same. Just say no to Harvey Hanna and Associates.
Thank you,
Lisa Nardone and Jim Million
